Castle in the clouds.. well a chateau actually. We think of the two as interchangeable, but they're not! Although both were typically built between the 9th and 13th centuries.

Chateau most often translates to meaning fine country house. It could also mean a fortress or palace.

A castle was intended to be a fortress pure and simple. It could also be a residence for nobility but it's main purpose was for defense. In the middle ages you put as much stone and water between yourself and the enemy as you could!

Castles and chateau exude such a romantic aura now, but they were built to show power and wealth. The bigger the better!

Well it looks like the US is re-opening to visitor

Well it looks like the US is re-opening to visitors! A date hasn't been officially set but early November is the target for renewing transatlantic travel.

The US will re-open to fully vaccinated passengers from the UK, the EU and other countries. As the UK and EU were already accepting US passengers, this is a long awaited change in US policy.

Passengers will need to show proof of vaccination before boarding a flight to the US and take a test with negative results within 3 days of arrival. Although the Astra-Zeneca shot isn't officially recognized in the US, that vaccine should be valid for entry.🤞

Flights to the US were limited while travel wasn't officially allowed to the US, so hopefully now airlines will add on more flights to more destinations making travel a wee bit less pricey and inconvenient.

You'd never guess this was taken on a Saturday evening would you? Shops close early but not the pubs! As I walked up the hill I could hear loud laughter and voices spilling out from the pub at the top.

By the way that's how streets are described in England... you're either at the top or the bottom!

Although I've grumbled a bit about not having a Target clone here in the UK, the tradeoff is there's a lot of lovely independent shops to browse!

There's never anything you NEED but you feel yourself drawn in to have a peek anyway. Plus I'm a sucker for anything green or flowery, aren't you?

You could almost write a novel around the life of a shop owner on a high street in a quaint town on the edge of Bath... hmmm anyone inspired? 😄

Happy Monday! Can you believe we're almost half way through September? Last night I noticed sunset is now at 7:30 which is much too soon isn't it. The disadvantage of living in the far northern hemisphere I'm afraid. Very long days in summer but too short in winter.

Anyhoo here's a lovely home along the Kennet- Avon canal complete with narrowboat moored up. This was the day I walked from Bradford on Avon to Freshford and saw some beauties!
