Hello lovelies... hope my US pals had a nice relax

Hello lovelies... hope my US pals had a nice relaxing July 4th long weekend? No fireworks here but things are slowly getting back to normal-ish. July 19 is the big day in England, no masks, no social distancing, back to real life. Can't. come. soon. enough.

Do I look a bit "deer in the headlights"? It's a good reflection of how I feel 😂 can't believe it's July!

Still trying to get my UK driving license 🤪(even bought a Mini to take the test in) but in the meantime I'm off on an adventure. We all need a change of scene, fresh perspective and something to look forward to don't we?

So I'll be checking in and saying hello, but may not be posting much. But just wait til I get back! In the meantime, enjoy summer as best you can. Don't wait. DO IT!! 😀

Just a short walk from the Anne of Cleeves House i

Just a short walk from the Anne of Cleeves House in Lewes is the Priory; the ruins of an ancient monastery built during the 11th century. It was one of the wealthiest monasteries in England at the time.

Henry VIII had the Priory destroyed in 1538 during the Reformation. Many bits of Priory stone ended up re-purposed into the architecture of Lewes.

Actually the Priory gardens are just a short stroll from the rail station and town, so well worth a visit. It's tucked behind Southover High Street and is open 24 hours a day and free to visit!

Once again we're in Lewes - can you tell I'm in lo

Once again we're in Lewes - can you tell I'm in love with this town? This castle-ette is on the grounds of the Priory, an ancient monastery ruin.

On my first exploratory - "do I want to live here?" - trip to England, I spent 6 weeks in Brighton at an Airbnb. My cousin told me to check out Lewes which is just 20 minutes away. I did and fell hard.

From then on each time we flew in from Gatwick it was our go to spot to drop our bags and call home. Everything else since then has changed, but Lewes still feels like home to me.

If you're looking for an easy day trip from London it's such a lovely spot to visit!

Who needs a drone when you can sit on the top deck of a double decker bus! The lively town of Lewes as seen coming down the High St. with the South Downs in the distance.

One of the reasons I love Lewes is you have the best of both worlds. A very lively town with lots of good restaurants, pubs and even an independent cinema/cafe but also easy access to the Downs where you can walk forever or at least to the Channel if you're very motivated!

Hope your Monday is off to a good start. We have the clouds this week with sprinkles and high humidity!

A peek of stunning Porthminster Beach in St Ives, Cornwall where you'll find the delightful Porthminster cafe smack dab on the beach!

Recently all the bigwigs like Biden and Boris Johnson met in nearby Carbis Bay for the G7 summit.

Kind of ironic that while they're keeping us locked down and unable to travel, the powers that be are jetting off to pow wow isn't it? Ah well.

I'd recommend visiting during off season as this part of England gets cram jammed with tourists during the school holidays. Also as we've not been able to travel to other sunny spots it's all booked up at the mo. I looked. Nothing til September at the earliest! 😂

You've seen this view many times, but it still loo

You've seen this view many times, but it still looks heavenly doesn't it? This is one of my favorite walks along the south Sussex coast - from Seaford to Cuckmere Haven which is that bit of beach where the river meets the sea.

My first time I came by the bus from Brighton and got off at Chyngton Gardens just outside of Seaford. I had no idea where I was going to end up but I can't tell you how thrilling it was to walk down and then up the lane and feel the sea getting closer!

Now I know this bit of coast from all directions but it took stepping out of my comfort zone first to scratch the itch I had to see these iconic cliffs in person.

OK back to England for this one... a view I never

OK back to England for this one... a view I never get tired of ....Beachy Head lighthouse over the chalk cliffs of East Sussex near Eastbourne. A friend and I walked up from Eastbourne on a very windy and chilly May day! Thankfully it's warmed up a bit now 😀

Actually I met my friend on a tour of Provence a couple of years ago. That's one of the nice things about a package tour, it gives you a chance to meet other travel lovers. She gave me her number and said if I was ever in Eastbourne to give her a call and so I did!

Moving to a new country is wonderful but when you've moved around a lot as I have it can be hard to hang onto friends and you always feel like you need to start over making new ones. So I was happy to have made a new friend especially one who loves to walk as much as I do!

One of my recommended ways to start your road trip

One of my recommended ways to start your road trip to France is taking the ferry from one of England's southern ports directly to a French port like the delightful town of Saint-Malo in Brittany.

Absolutely fell in love with this coastal town with it's lovely walled old town and pretty beaches. Lots of lovely shops and bistros. Tres chic!

Plus there's a Europcar location at the Gare du Saint Malo (train station) where you can pick up a rental car if you choose to cross by foot on the ferry from Portsmouth to Saint Malo or come in via Paris on the Eurostar.

To be honest I tried to brush up on my high school French pre trip with Duolingo, but can't say I'm very fluent by any stretch. Even so we managed to muddle through. The French are very understanding in my opinion!
